Monterey Area Romantic Proposals

Sunset Bonfire Proposal (10% off when mentioning cityitinerary.com)
Location: Carmel
Description: Local company Romantic Room Designs specializes in providing you with a great proposal story. They offer a sunset proposal bonfire down on Carmel Beach. They will build and start the fire and provide you with a warm beach blanket, two dozen roses, picnic basket with gourmet food items and refreshments and all of the supplies for s'mores as well as a variety of romantic gift items. They will even spell out a message of love in rose petals! Their bonfire packages range from $109 (Monterey) to $199-$249 in Carmel.

The great thing about this idea is that you can keep it as a surprise from the person to which you are proposing. You can just walk by the bonfire and say, "This is for us." You can generate your own proposal (or use one of theirs) and have it rolled up inside a bottle which will be partially buried in the sand. Romantic Room Designs claims to have a 100% success rate with proposals. Visit them at Romantic Room Designs

Seaside Proposal
Location: Seaside (just outside of Monterey)
Directions: Located just off of Hwy 1 off of the recreation trail
Hours: NA
Description: I am not sure about the legalities of doing this so proceed at your own risk. There is a large sand dune with a smooth face where at least a couple of times a week, someone writes a message spelled out in dried leaves, sand and ice plant parts that you can collect at the foot of the dunes. You can write out a short message of proposal and drive by it. Celebrate the yes with a bottle of champagne and bonfire down at the nearby Del Monte Beach. Alternative: Spell it out in seaweed or draw it in the sand at Del Monte Beach beforehand and walk on by with her.
Your Secret is Safe Proposal
Description: Plan your visit to the Monterey area and splurge on a nice hotel. Tell her that you put your credit cards in the safety deposit box and ask her if she can collect the contents (while you are busy doing something else). When she retrieves the box, she will not find your credit cards but a small jewelery box with the ring and a notecard saying, You are the most valuable and most important person in my life. Will you marry me?
Romantic Hotel Proposal
Description: When you arrive to your hotel, send your girlfriend out of the room (give some good explanation that will get them out of the room for at least a short while). Leave a notecard along with a single rose on the table in your room and leave the room yourself. When they come back to the room, they will open the envelope which will send them to a spa for a massage, facial -- whatever relaxing treatment you think they will like. At the spa, you will be leaving another note (and also pre-paying all of the charges for the treatment), which will be given to your girlfriend upon completion of their time at the spa. This time it will send them to the front desk of the hotel. At the front desk, leave yet another note, along with a dozen roses, asking your beloved to go back up to the room. In the room, leave a split of champagne, a glass, a box filled with a beautiful, new dress (yes, you really need to pre-plan this) and another notecard which instructs them to meet you at a nearby romantic restaurant. Allow her enough time to get ready (shower , makeup etc.). When she arrives to the restaurant, the host will hand her the last envelope which she is told to read when she sits down at the table (you are "waiting in the wings" watching her read it and asking the host to bring over a bottle of champagne when your ready). When she sits at the table, she will open one large envelope that contains 3 smaller envelopes -- each numbered. The first envelope contains a notecard that says "Will"; the second envelope contains a note card that says "You" and the final envelope has a notecard that says "Marry Me". That is when you walk over, on bended knee, in front of the whole restaurant and with ring in hand, to formally propose.
Romantic Proposal with a Romantic Room Design (Save 10% on your order by mentioning cityitinerary.com)
Location: Your Hotel Room
Description: There is a company is the Monterey area called Romantic Room Designs (Toll Free 1-888-871-3248 extension 1 romanticroomdesigns.com that does a great job in making an ordinary hotel room look extraordinarily romantic. Depending on your budget, the can decorate the room with rose petals, red roses, massage products, gift items, romantic books, candles, bath and body products and more.

After entering the room, you can either propose right there in the midst of this private, romantic room or take a more creative approach:

- You can pretend that you are just as surprised that your room is decorated and "call down" to the front desk to request a key to "your room." Tell your girlfriend that you need to go to the desk to get your new key and have her stay in the room with the luggage in case your room is right next door. You arrive after a few minutes and knock on the door. When she answers, you get down on one knee, and say "I may not have a key to a new room but I hope I have the key to your heart."

- Or you can do the above scenario but when you come back to the room, hand here a key envelope with the engagement ring inside. Ask her to open the envelope (as you pretend to gather the luggage) and watch her face light up with surprise.

Climbing Marriage Proposal
Description: Many people have ventured into the forests and mountains of Monterey County only to pop-the-question at the culmination of a beautiful hike. One of the best places to go would be the Big Sur Coast. Travel south past Carmel and enjoy an early morning drive with the mountains on one side and the ocean on the other. Now, where you hike depends on what kind of hikes you like. Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park is very popular. For a short, scenic hike you can take the Pfeiffer Falls trail for 1.4 miles roundtrip and end up at a 60-foot high waterfall. On the same trail, continue another half mile up for views of Point Sur and the Big Sur Valley. From nearby Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, take the McWay Waterfall Trail just .65 miles roundtrip to see an 80 foot waterfall that drops right onto a Sandy Beach and into the ocean. When you have reached the most scenic part of the hike it's time to propose. There are lots of creative ways to do it. A simple way would be to bring a picnic lunch. Set it out and have her unwrap her sandwhich which - surprise - has a diamond ring inside. A more creative idea would be to have a beach blanket made with the words WILL YOU MARRY ME?. Ask her to spread out the blanket for the picnic and wait for your answer. Afterwards, head to Nepenthe for an outdoor celebration drink, the Big Sur River Inn for dinner/drinks out by the River, or Deetjens Big Sur Inn for a romantic dinner
