Scenic Drives

Hwy 1 South of Carmel to Big Sur
Location:	Big Sur
Directions:	Take Hwy 1 south of Carmel and just past Rio Road. This is the beginning of the scenic drive and about 26 miles north of Big Sur.

Description:	Hwy 1 becomes a winding road hugs rolling green hills and mountains on one side and the rugged coast and ocean on the other side. Drive as long as you like -- up to 90 miles down the coast! There are a few places to stop for something to eat including Rocky Point Restaurant and Nepenthe (which also has a gift shop). There are plenty of places to pull over and take photos or go on a hike (best places - Julia Pfeiffer State Park and Andrew Molera State Park).

Pacific Grove along the ocean
Location:	Pacific Grove
Directions:	Start the drive on Ocean View Blvd at the American Tin Cannery Outlet Center.

Description:	Follow Ocean View Blvd in Pacific Grove near the Aquarium as it hugs along the ocean. On your left will be some of the most picturesque B&B's in the country and on your right will be the ocean, jagged rocks with sea otters and sea lions. Continue along the ocean and view some of the gorgeous oceanfront homes, sand dunes, a golf course (most of the time dotted with small deer), vibrant pink ice plant, and a lighthouse. Ocean View Blvd becomes Sunset Drive and the best part of the drive culminates when it intersects the beginning of Hwy 68.

Seventeen Mile Drive
Location:	Pebble Beach
Directions:	There are several gateways to Seventeen Mile Drive including in Pacific Grove off of Hwy 68; in Carmel off of San Antonio Road and in Pebble Beach off of Hwy 1 at the Hwy 68/Pebble Beach exit.
Hours:	Best during the day
Description:	A very scenic drive that winds through the Cypress and Pine Trees past multi-million dollar homes (we're talking $15 - $20 million), past world famous golf courses and ultra-high end hotels. The best part is the outermost section along the ocean with beautiful vistas and markers for special points of interest. There is a fee at the gate (currently $8.50) which includes a map with directions.
